Η Εκκλησία τιμά την μνήμη του στις 20 Ιουλίου κάθε χρόνο.

 «Άρμα πυρός και ίπποι πυρός... και ανελήφθη Ηλίας εν συσσεισμώ ως εις τον ουρανόν» (Βασ. Δ΄ 2,11).

Αναλαμβανόμενος σωματικώς στα ύψη ο Προφήτης Ηλίας με αυτήν την πυρφόρο ανάβαση, προτύπωσε την ανάληψη του Κυρίου μας Ιησού Χριστού και με την πέμψη της μηλωτής του στον Προφήτη Ελισσαίο προανήγγειλε την επιφοίτηση του Αγίου Πνεύματος την ημέρα της Πεντηκοστής.

      The Holy Prophet Elias (Ilias) (Elijah) – one of the greatest of the prophets and the first dedicated to virginity in the Old Testament – he was born in Galaadian Thesbia (Tishbe) into the Levite tribe 900 years before the Incarnation of the Word of God. Because of his fiery zeal for the Glory of God the Prophet Elias was taken up alive to Heaven on a fiery chariot with horses.
